Oh Baby, We're Pregnant!

Instagram-Computer Transfers-0020.jpg

I am so excited to officially announce that our little family is growing! We are expecting our second child this May! It was so fun to tell Vera that she is going to be a "big sister" (we are leaning heavily on Daniel Tiger episodes centered around Daniel and Baby Margaret). We gave her a "Big Sis" t-shirt, and some fun baby/big sis books and she will say "I'm gonna be a BIIIIGGGG helper!" (also from Daniel Tiger). It's crazy to think of our lives with two kids instead of just one, but we are so excited and know she really will be a great big sister.

Now I'm pretty bad at keeping secrets, so it's been TOUGH to keep it real and share candidly on social media the last few months (and yes those cocktails on my recent sisters trip to Chicago were most definetly MOCKtails!), so I have been jotting down some things on how my first trimester went to share and remember!

  • Coffee sounded so not appetizing and it was oh so sad (it was the same way when I was pregnant with Vera in the beginning). I'm sure the Starbucks app on my phone thought I fell off the face of the earth. I sincerely missed my mochas, PSLs, and my body missed that caffeine. Good news is that within the last few weeks I'm back to digging my indulgent coffee shop drinks (just in time for peppermint mochas, yay!)

  • I have been obsessed with juice. And fruity tea (I have NEVER been a tea drinker before in my life, so super random). I'm digging the very berry hibiscus (with lemonade instead of water) at Starbucks.

  • My cravings have been totally impulse. For example, I was watching a chick flick in bed one night and there was a scene where a couple was at a bar eating peanuts. I had to pause the movie and go find peanuts in my kitchen. I'm also easily convinced by commercials that advertise things I have never had or wanted but for some reason now look amazing, and in turn end up on my grocery list (hello FiberOne cheesecake bars?! Random.)

  • I was really obsessed with sandwiches (again, same as when I was preggo with Vera too). But this time Erbert's and gerbert's is like crack to me (hello, those guts?!)

  • Nausea was in full swing, and the earlier trimester brought about mornings that almost always began with gingerale and granola bars. I think it's hardest because I think I was just used to being hungry because I'm just a busy person (and I would eventually eat after looking after a toddler and running a biz), but now hungry like instantly equals nauseous.

  • Tired. Oh the first tri sleepiness. It's a real thing. Iv had a few nights where I crash early, and a few days where I have actually napped when Vera naps during the day (and I'm not a napper typically). The last few months have been crazy busy with fall sessions but I couldn't be more thankful of the timing that my wedding season wrapped up in September! And I think the fall sessions honestly kept my mind off not feeling 100%.

We are most definetly going to find out the gender (we are total planners and love finding out!) What do you think it will be?! I'm looking forward to this pregnancy being in the winter/spring months (Vera was a September baby, so I was 8 months pregnant in hot humid August). So bring on all the sweaters and leggings, I'm ready for 'em!

Molly & Brent | Maternity Photography | Lakefront Park Prior Lake

Molly & Brent are expecting their first baby this November and I couldn't be more excited for them! We had the perfect fall evening exploring Lakefront Park in Prior Lake. The colors were in full swing and their pup Charlie was not shy in showing his excitement for the upcoming arrival of his new BFF. So excited to meet their bundle of joy soon and so honored to document this short season of life for maternity photos!

Nicole & Seth | Buffalo, MN Wedding

Nicole & Seth met while working at the same restaurant in college, but they consider their "first date" the 4th of July weekend when Nicole invited Seth to her parents cabin (as friends because she didn't "officially" know if he liked her). Apparently he did, because he drove 12 hours to come to the cabin! You could say the rest is history.

Nicole & Seth were married on a perfect September day in Minnesota. These two did so much right on their day. We went to a local greenery/nursery for photos, popped by their house after the ceremony to take some photos with their pup, Otis, and had delicious fajitas for dinner at the reception. Nicole & Seth both have smiles that light up the room and you can tell that on top of being absolutely in love, they are sincerely best friends. Their day was filled with so much love, laughter, and the most beautiful sunset.

Jessine & Taner | Lone Mountain Ranch, MT Wedding

So many things about this wedding were extraordinary (both amazing and out-of-the-ordinary). First of all, the groom Taner was the best man in OUR wedding four years ago. I have known him pretty much since I've known my husband and it was easily one of the most heart-touching weddings I've ever photographed. Secondly, it was in Montana! We had the gorgeous mountains in Big Sky as our backdrop for the day, and they did not disappoint. We were able to spend a few days with the bride, groom, wedding party, and family in a gorgeous rental house in Moonlight Basin.

To say that Jessine and Taner make one another happy is an understatement. My eyes were foggy behind the camera during their first look, the entire crowd was teary-eyed during their ceremony, all in all, the entire day was just about so much genuine LOVE. This wedding will forever be close to my heart and I will never forget my time in the mountains and the beautiful photographs of these sweet friends.

Mikel, Danielle & Jaden | Lakeville Family Session

Nothing better than getting a sweet family of three in front of my lens for some family photos. Jaden is 5 months old, and I just love capturing shots of parents just loving on their kiddos (because really, we all are embarrassingly obsessed with our own kids). I also love that Danielle requested this session before Mikel began growing out his beard for hunting season (SO many women can relate to this! Ha!) This session at Ritter Farm Park in Lakeville was a perfect jump into fall sessions (even though, ok it may have been like 80 degrees, but you'd never know! :)

There are so many reasons why I love family sessions, but just to name a few I love getting mom and dad IN the photos with their kids (instead of being stuck taking the photos), and having professional quality photos of their littles! Seeing them in these photos more truly shows how we see them in real life with details, light, and emotion that are somehow lost in phone photos that never leave our screen.

Cheers to getting updated family photos taken, and even more, printed and displayed! Enjoy this sweet session filled with oh so much love.

Quincee & Joey | Glenhaven Events Wedding, Farmington

Quincee and Joey's wedding can be summed up in one word: love. There was just SO much love on this day. I loved how excited Joey was to see Quincee (his reaction in the first look is so amazing!), and how relaxed these two were all day long (especially after they got to see one another!). They had smiles the entire day, they knew not to stress and to simply enjoy each moment of the day that brought them together as husband and wife. Quincee and Joey are so openly and sincerely joyful and grateful for one another, and treat each other like gold.

Their day was beautiful, their evening portraits were stunning and sun-filled, and their bridal party had so much goodness (I may have to award their best man the "best best man award" I've seen!) Oh, and the maid of honor is Quincee's best friend, and Joey's sister! Best friends turned sisters, yep, that's just some more love to sprinkle on top of this awesome day.

Quincee & Joey, thank you for inviting me into your celebration of love! You guys and your tribe are just some of the best people out there. Enjoy reliving the best day ever, for this is just the beginning of your beautiful lives together.

Gretchen & Penelope are ONE | Minnesota Family Session

When it comes to this family, it's very clearly double the cuteness with Gretchen and Penelope. They recently turned ONE and are just the sweetest girls around. I can remember back to when I took Sarah & Pete's announcement photos that they were having twins! And now they have successfully made it through the first year of parenting and are on the brink of toddler-hood. So fun to see this sweet group and document this season of life. I love how G&P were so expressive and how their little personalities came out in the photos and who doesn't love some adorable baby headbands, mocasins, and tutus!?

Gina & Jake | Minneapolis Event Centers Wedding

The rain toyed with us the entire week of Gina & Jake's wedding, but come Saturday the sun was shining and we had the most perfect June day. Their day was filled with so many sweet moments and special touches. Gina's garter was made from part of her mom's wedding dress, and the coin in her shoe was also in her mom's shoe at her parents wedding. (Did you know the saying "something borrowed, something blue, something old, something new" actually ends with "and a sixpence in your shoe"?! I had no idea!)

I love getting to know my PBMJ couples during the engagement process, and this response to "What is your favorite food" probably goes down in history as one of my favorite responses:

"This is literally the hardest question you could ask......Jake's favorite food is the cheeseburger, followed closely by burritos. Gina's favorite food is probably sausage and mushroom pizza. Or maybe Pad Thai. But probably pizza."

I mean, aren't they the cutest?! Don't even get me started on their amazing proposal (which you can read all about in their engagement session here!)

The Minneapolis Event Centers and the St. Anthony Main area was the perfect backdrop for this stunning wedding and this perfect couple who decided on forever. Gina & Jake's smiles were sincere and infectious, and their wedding party was such a fun group who gladly cheered on the happy couple all day long. Their families were so loving and proud of Gina and Jake and made everyone feel so welcomed. Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Kimmes! Thank you for inviting me to document this amazing day!

Sam & Jon | Eagan Maternity Session

Sam and Jon are just the sweetest parents to be. Their maternity session at Thomas Lake Park in Eagan gave us all the lush green grass, pond-side views, and soft glowing light. But nothing could steal the show from how excited these two are for their baby to arrive. Can't wait to meet their bundle of joy soon for a newborn session!

I just love maternity sessions. The season of life of a baby growing in your belly is so brief and special, and in the grand scheme of time, it goes by in a flash. Preserving these sweet moments, especially as a couple transitions into parenthood, is so near and dear to my heart.

Welcome Eva | Lifestyle Newborn Session

You may recognize Kimmie and Emmett (now forever "mom and dad"!) from their maternity session - but now those anxious and excited faces of waiting to meet their little girl have been replaced with complete smitten for little Eva. It was so special to come to their home and document this lifestyle session for them. These first few weeks/months go by SO quickly when they are just SO sleepy and cuddly, soon they will be changing right before your eyes. Welcome to the world, Eva! You are so very loved.
